Volunteers are the backbone of Hope Horizon East Palo Alto. Through our highly relational environment, they open doors to hope and opportunity for youth. Please join us for the Summer Volunteer Orientation and Training on June 9 or June 11, 6:30–8 pm, or June 13, 9:30–11 am.

Lead a Workshop

Lead a workshop twice a week this summer for small groups of 8–12 students, ranging from K-8th grade. Each session includes two 45-minute blocks, giving you the chance to share your interests while building valuable leadership, communication, and planning skills—and earning community service hours! The total commitment is 4 hours per week, with a minimum of 3 weeks (6 sessions total). Please write a workshop proposal including an outline of each session, materials needed, workshop objectives, and a brief description of the final presentation or project. Proposals are due by May 15 to volunteer@hopehorizonepa.org.

Academic Tutoring

Academic Tutoring (Math/ELA)
Make a meaningful impact this summer by volunteering as an academic tutor, helping students strengthen their math and English language arts skills. Tutoring sessions run Monday through Thursday, 9–11:30 am, with a minimum commitment of two consecutive weeks, and up to six weeks! This is a great opportunity to build leadership and teaching experience while earning community service hours.

Snack Donations

We need your help providing non-perishable, *nut-free*, low-sugar, healthy snacks for our campers. We kindly request 50 servings (or more) of each item. Great options include raisins, other dried fruit (mango, apple, etc.), fruit bars, applesauce cups, granola bars, whole grain crackers, and trail mix. Please bring snack donations to our EPA location by June 9th.

Summer Showcase, July 24, 5–8 pm

Please join us for our Camp Hope Horizon 2025 Summer Showcase. We look forward to showing you what the students have learned over the course of the summer. Volunteers are encouraged to attend RSVP here.

Standards of Conduct 


Respect Hope Horizon’s Christian foundation • Not teach, guide, or instruct youth/children contrary to generally accepted Christian doctrines, based on the Holy Bible.  


Model and promote healthy lifestyles: • Not use illegal drugs or abuse alcohol. • Not teach, guide, or instruct youth/children in such a way as to affirm the use of illegal drugs, the abuse of alcohol, gang involvement, truancy from school, or any criminal activity. • Not endorse nor promote sexual activity outside of marriage.  


Respect the children/youth: • Respect the race, culture, and nationality of others, especially of Hope Horizon East Palo Alto participants.• Maintain verbal self-control and refrain from using profane or offensive language, condescension, abusive language, or any “put-downs,” when interacting with youth/children in Hope Horizon East Palo Alto programs. • Not make any physical contact in a discipline-related situation with youth/children or as part of disciplining. • Not become romantically or sexually involved with any Hope Horizon youth/child 


Be a team player: • Be willing to submit to the authority of Hope Horizon East Palo Alto and that of Hope Horizon East Palo Alto supervisor. • Follow through consistently on commitments made to Hope Horizon East Palo Alto and inform supervisor of any inability to volunteer prior to the scheduled time, if at all possible.

Recognizing that all content forms listed below are strictly for the purpose of promoting Hope Horizon East Palo Alto and its programs, I permit Hope Horizon East Palo Alto to use any photographs, video images, and/or audio sounds of the volunteer for the purpose of promoting Hope Horizon East Palo Alto and its programs, and I forfeit the right to compensation for any of the above.
